Can my wife have her teeth whitened if she has a cap on her front teeth?

Q. Hi Dr Solanki, My Wife has a cap on one of her front teeth. Can she have her teeth whitened and keep the cap (thirty years old) which is of good quality and design? I’d like to have her teeth whitened for her birthday in May. Regards, John.,
A. John. Unfortunately there are no tooth whitening treatments on the market that whiten caps/veneers/crowns/white fillings etc. Whitening treatments only whiten dental enamel. If your wife wishes to have her teeth whitened then this would only alter the shade of her natural teeth and not the cap. It would be advised that hif your wife decides to go ahead with tooth whitening the cap may have to be replaced with a cap matching the colour of the new whiter shade of teeth. Dr K Solanki

How would a teeth whitening procedure affect the two capped teeth I have?

The whitening won’t affect the crowns. They might need replacing after the whitening has finished
