Can I have dental implants if I have type 1 diabetes?

Q.
Hi Andrew, I have just returned from my dentist who has advised me that I have a number of loose teeth and that this is due to receding bone in my jaw. It is likely that I will lose these teeth including one which has a bridge attached. I am a 59 year old and have had type 1 diabetes for 30 yrs. My blood glucose control has not been great in the last few years but I’m working on it. Given these factors, am I likely to be suitable for implants? and what do these cost (per tooth). I have done a little research but not sure if I will be suitable and I am worried as I want the teeth replacing as soon and quickly as possible. Thanks for your time.

Hello, thanks for your question. Unfortunately, your risk of complications is increased with diabetes and implants but its not a complete contra indication. It’s difficult to tell you how much it will cost but a guide would be 13,000 for a full arch bridge as a starting price. I hope this helps. Regards.
