Can I have cosmetic bonding if my teeth have been treated for periodontitis?

Q. is it possible to have cosmetic bonding to close gap in top two front teeth if had treatment for periodonitis?,
A. Dear Enquirer, It is difficult for me to give an accurate answer without visually seeing the size of the gap and the contour of the gum tissue at the base of the tooth. Both these factors need to be considered when deciding how to close the gap between front teeth. Sometimes I see patients that have had gum disease and as a result the gums have shrunk back, making the teeth appear longer. As the necks of the teeth appear narrower as a result, it is difficult to close the gaps completely, leaving a small black triangle between the teeth. This may or may not show when you smile depending on how much gum you show when you smile. If your gums have not shrunk back and the gap is up to 4mm in width, it should be able to be closed by a competent cosmetic dentist. I hope this helps….not a simple answer, I’m afraid. You need to be assessed properly by a dentist. Regards, Sunita
