Can I get a dental implant to replace my tooth?

Q.
Hey Dr Mark Hughes,

I am 23 years old and have a fang above my left tooth which I’ve had for about 8-9 years. The tooth underneath I believe is still a baby tooth that got jammed and didn’t come out. I haven’t been to the dentist for about 6 years but when I went the last time I refused to get my bottom tooth taken out as I didn’t want to have the gap. I am now looking to put this right but still feel the same way.

I wanted to see if it would be possible to get them both removed and a dental implant put in afterwards? If so would it be a costly procedure?

Thank you very much for your time, it is very kind of you.

John.

Hi John

It may be possible to immediately place a dental implant with a replacement tooth, following the removal of the baby tooth, but without examinaing you and some Xrays in person it’s impossibe to be certain.

The best thing to do is to come for a consultation to fully assess your situation and then we can see what’s possible and come up with some idea of costs

Best wishes

Mark

Is it clear with X-ray at the start, whether there is enough bone in a top back tooth area for an implant please? Am 65 but believe my bones generally to be good and gums good overall. One tooth a problem but over bite too. The tooth had a faulty gold crown fitted which was replaced by sadly another faulty one – both too proud. The first ground down through the top so replaced and the second the same but stopped short of going through it this time. The bit is therefore still proud. There was a small crack at the start hence the crown. Has been root filled since but still niggling. Was difficult to fill as calcified from original hammering. All this over about 10 years. Longing to just sort this out now. Help very much appreciated. Many thanks

The tooth will need removing then the bone assessing 4 months later as all patients are different and have varying anatomy

If I have a tooth with a vertical crack does it have to extracted or can it be repaired. My dentist has suggested a bridge or an implant but the tooth is not painful now that a temporary Illinois has been inserted. I suspect my dentist has damaged this tooth when extracting the one next to it. The tooth the other side of the extraction was damaged as well and has been crowned. I don’t think I trust this dentit anymore, I live in Solihull area.

I don’t think a dentist could have cracked the tooth during the extraction, however I do agree that most of the time a vertical crack means removal of the tooth

I had my lower back tooth extracted 3 years ago in 2010 and I have not had the missing tooth replaced. I wanted to know since so much years have passed by, will I be able to get a bridge or implant still? My other teeth especially in the lower row have begun to shift. I wanted to know if I’m able to get braces along with a bridge or implant, or if I can just get braces to fix the alignment of my teeth.
