Can Fixed Braces Be Attached To Porcelain Veneers? Replacing The Veneers Would Cost Too Much.

Q.
Hi Mark. I have four porcelain veneers on my upper front teeth. Due to gum disease my upper right lateral incisor is moving my central incisor forward. I am hoping orthodontics treatment will help. I am interested in the six month smile fixed brace over Invisalign as it’s less complicated to manage daily. My only concern is whether fixed braces can be attached to porcelain veneers because the cost of replacing veneers is £800 each. This is more than the cost of the fixed brace treatment! Please could you help with this query; can fixed braces be attached to porcelain veneers without damaging them? I thank you in advance.
A.
Yes, you can attach fixed braces to porcelain veneers – there is a special technique for bonding to porcelain. Best of luck with the treatment – make sure your gum disease is FULLY resolved and healthy before any orthodontics! Also it is worth getting a few opinions on the orthodontics, as sometimes to move teeth very precisely it’s best to do the full mouth. (6 month smiles is only for the front teeth and doesn’t correct bites or complex movement needs)

Best wishes, Mark.
