I have a gold coloured alloy crown recently fitted and am a bit concerned as l saw an article in a national newspaper stating that once the saliva in your mouth starts to corrode the crown it can release toxins that can be harmful. Can you advise me on this? This was after l had a root canal treatment on the same tooth which fell apart after only a couple of months. Should l have opted for a porcelain crown which is more expensive?

Dear Enquirer, A gold crown is bot inert and safe and has been used for several decades very safely. There are no release of toxins relating to a gold crown. A well made porcelain crown is just a s good as a gold crown. Regards,
