Can children get cosmetic dentistry?

Q.
Hi I have seen you deal with cosmetic dentistry, can this be done on children?, my son aged 9 has broken one of his front teeth nearly in half, and his 2nd incisor came though slightly damaged (it looks chipped). He has chipped and broken 2 of his bottom front teeth either side of the 2 middle ones, one resulting is a slightly sharp peak, his dentist said that this would wear down over time. The front incisor that he nearly broken in half was built up with some tooth coloured filling but the tooth isn’t the same size as the one next to it and it bulges at the bottom. Would this be something he would need to consider when he gets older? Can his teeth look better?

Also my daughter aged 9 had sealants on her adult molars a few months ago. Her dentist said this was normal as she had deep pits in her molars and it would protect them from decay. When they were put on her teeth they were perfectly healthy, but one came out recently and it could be seen where the sealant was applied it had left white marks in the middle of her molar in the indent. Her dentist said that this was how her tooth formed and I think he said it was calcification, I was concerned as her teeth were perfectly healthy and unmarked until she had these sealants, but now appear to be damaged and I am worried about the other 3 that had sealants put on them.

Occasionally it is possible to do some cosmetic dentistry on children, especially if it is very ‘non-invasive’ such as dental bonding. Then more definitive treatment can be carried out when they get older. here’s link to some treatment carried out by on of my cosmetic dental team to fix a child’s broken tooth

Regarding the sealants, they are extremely good at preventing tooth decay, properly placed , re-assessed and replaced as necessary -the bond does not last forever. Have a look at some of the teeth that did noit have sealants – do they have white marks too. if excess calcification exists it often (but not always) exists on the other teeth as well.

Hope that helps

Hi my 6 yr Daughter has recently been confirmed of having hypoplasia it has been caused by illness when she was younger, all her front adult teeth and some of the adult teeth which has grown at the back are all been affected i have to be honest and say they do look quite bad white patches on all of them and even one of the front ones has an Orange tinge but she wasn’t really that bothered by them until recently she has been getting some very nasty comments at school which has actually made her cry so you can imagine as a mum i am really upset is there any thing that can be done to improve there appearance, i really cant bear the thought of her having to put up with this this all through her school yrs.

Hi, my son who is eight has discoloured yellow molars and six of the eight front teeth have some staining too. I have been told it was due to birth trauma probably and after researching sounds like MIH. What can be done temporarily until they have all full erupted? Debbie, what happened with your daughter?
