Can braces help to cure TMJ and correct teeth alignment?

Q. I have TMJ. My teeth used to be crowed, but I had the extra teeth removed when I was 20. I am now 41 and my teeth have shifted to fill in gaps from the previous teeth. I have a slight overbite and my teeth on the right side are angling inside my mouth. I have TMJ. Will braces help correct my teeth and possibly cure my TMJ? I have a mouth guard now. Will I need one with the braces? Thanks!,
A. Usually a hard bite raising appliance is the best way to treat TMJ disorders however if this has failed you may need more advanced therapy. You need to find a dentist with extensive experience in these cases as they can be very tricky to treat.
