can beauty salons do teeth whitening

Q. Is it legal for beauty salons to be carrying out teeth whitening? I was told that the lady who carried out my treatment was trained - what qualifications should she have? I am not satisfied with the results and they say i signed a consent form to agree that the treatment may not be effective, can they get away with this? the leaflet they give out states they can whiten your teeth between 4 and 11 shades, i only went 3 shades and i am still a 4B which to me is still yellow. I want to confront them about this but need to know some facts about whether they are trading correctly etc before i do. thanks you for your advice in advance

A. Please contact the BACD and trading standards.  It is illiegal for anyone other than a dentist or a Hygienist/therapist with the correct training and under the prescription of a dentist to carry out bleaching.
