Between Emax & Empress II which has better features?
Q. Dear Dr Caplan. What are the difference between Emax veneers and Empress II veneers. Are the emax porcelain veneers more beautiful, thinest and strongest that the old well known Empress II porcelain? Thanks
A. They are 2 types of porcelain. Emax is made from Lithium Disilicate and is about 3 times stronger than Empress which is made our of feldspathic reenforced with leucite

IPS Empress I and IPS Empress II and IPS EMAX are totally different. They came out in their respective order. Empress I and EMAX are what Dr. Caplan said. Empress II is lithium-disilicate glass-ceramic framework veneered with flourapetite porcelain. Studies have shown that IPS EMAX is superior in all regards, however some still use Empress I due to its translucency. IPS EMAX if not cut back is monolithic.
the question remains in my mind: what is the difference between Empress II and emax? if both are lithium disilcate based then how do thy differ in composition? Thanks in advance 🙂
