Bad Diet Has Caused Acid To Erode My Teeth, What Is The Cheapest Way To Restore Them?

Q.
Hi.  I’ve got bad acid erosion on my teeth from living off of diet coke for years! My molars are particularly bad but also my front teeth have small chips. I have hardly any money and was just wondering if you knew of the cheapest possible out come I could have to repair some of this damage. I really do not want metal crowns as am a singer and this will completely knock my confidence. I am extremely upset I have let it get to this point and know there is no way I can pay thousands of pounds. I feel at a complete loss!
If you could let me know what you think may be the treatment I am looking at and if you know of any NHS dentist who would provide tooth coloured crowns on molars.
Thank you very much for your time.

Hello and thank you for getting in touch. Acid erosion is particularly common and is something as a dentist I see every day. Firstly and most importantly you need to address your diet and reduce or eliminate any sources of acid, such as fizzy drinks, fruit juice and vinegar. This will prevent the situation from getting any worse. As far as restoring the the tooth loss that has already occurred, this will obviously depend on how bad the situation is, however a simple and cost effective option is bonding. Simply adding tooth coloured filling material to the affected areas. Crowns are also effective but usually reserved for more severe cases as they can be quite destructive. I really hope you find this helpful. Kind regards, Marcus Gambroudes.
