are metal braces and clear braces the same

Q. Hi DR Julian I would like to ask you some questions are: What are the difference between the metal brace & clear brace, I mean once I’ve finished the treatment will both have the same effective result? If I do the clear brace or metal brace Is it necessary that I must wear the retainer for ever or just for just for a period of time? I am looking forward your answers Thank you

A. Metal braces can move tooth in more ways than clear braces - some cases can be treated very well with clear braces but other times a fixed metal brace is required.  You will always need some period of retention.  If there is a good chance of relapse then a permanent retainer can be bonded to the back of your teeth
