Are Lumineers appropriate for my dark teeth, or can I go with my preferred choice of internal bleaching?

Q. Dr. Bohara: I had an injury to top front tooth. I had a root canal & internal bleaching. The bleaching lasted a couple of years. The tooth has turned dark again. I have a new dentist this time who is recommending a lumineer. I asked her what she thought about another internal bleaching, but she said they frequently don’t last. She also said the lumnineer would be warranteed for 5 years. My insurance company has agreed to pay for the lumineer, but won’t pay for the bleaching. Yet, I’m concerned about having my tooth surface sanded down when it looks perfectly fine as is. What would you recommend?,
A. Personally i do think lumineers are appropriate for teeth which are dark. Lumineers are marketed as thin veneers , therfore the dark translucency will go throught the lumineer. For really dark teeth a zirconia crown may be more appropriatte. Of course i cannot give a definitive answer without examining the mouth. The appropriate material really depends on the coulour of the tooth.
