Two dentists are giving me different opinions about implant treatment. Can you advise?

Wednesday, September 15th, 2010
Q.
Hi Dr Bohara, I am 43 years old and i have gum problems . It recedes athough i do not smokeat all. . I will need to remove 4 of my front lower teeth. I would like to do implant to replace them. The problem is that i am getting 2 different opinins from 2 different dentists. One is saying after extracting my 4 teeth , he will implant them put rexin and after 2 months , put the ceramic teeth ,It looks perfect for me. However another dentist is saying after extracting the 4 teeth , i will need to wear false dentures for about 2 months to let the gum takes its place and then it will follow the above steps . I obvioudsl prefer the first choice and is more expensive than the second one, The problem is that the second sounds it makes more sense . That is to wait for the gum to take its place before going for the implants. They are both expert in this field . To play safe, the second dentist seems better but can i go with the first one as i would not like to wear false dentures ,

What treatment other than braces is available for a crooked smile with gaps?

Wednesday, September 15th, 2010
Q.
Dear Dr Caplan, I am very interested in cosmetic dentistry because I have a crooked smile, I have 3 teeth that stick out and have gaps between them but I was told recently by a dentist that the only option open to me would be braces because the gaps are quite substantial and they stick out quite a bit. Could you tell me what you think. I would get braces if that is the only option but I would love to get something done as soon as possible, would I be able to get the 3 teeth removed and permenant false ones put in to create a better smile ? Thaks so much for your help Kind regards ,

Wednesday, September 15th, 2010
Q.
From the age of 8yrs old i had a bad fall and ended up with a front left denture, which knocked my confidence alot, when i turned 16yrs old i had a horse rideing accident which resulted in me receiveing another 5 dentures from my front right tooth along my right side of my mouth…when i had had my first baby i breast fed which caused me to have a calcium drop, which in turn ended up with nearly all my bottom teeth filled with silver filllings.Im sorry to go on a bit,but would like to know if i could have my fillings change to a white colour and my front teeth without dentures? This is causeing me to become and feel depressed as i cant be myself anymore through feeling really ashamed, its that bad for me i cant bring myself to go see a dentist.thankyou,

Veneers look thick and odd in places. Is this normal or can something be done?

Tuesday, September 14th, 2010
Q.
I had veneers fitted to my teeth about 5 years ago and have found that although they are straight, I have noticed that if you look underneath they are very thick in places and look odd. Is this normal and can it be rectified? Thanks,

I have been told different things by two dentists. Who do I believe?

Friday, September 10th, 2010
Q.
Dear Dr Tennet I am at so so confused. I had a root canal treatment on my first premolar about 2 years ago. I didnt have a crown. Needless to say the remaining tooth broke after a year, first on the back. then at the front a year later. The embedded remaining piece which I assume being the filling, was loose. I had a white filling, I also had posts placed into my root canals. I first went to a dentist who said that nothing could be done in terms of having a crown, as what was left had been fractured, pointing to and showing me the loose bit that I myself earlier had discovered. Because of this the dentist recomended either an extraction, and the option between a bridge, denture or implant. I then went to another dentist, who said that I could have a crown fixed onto the tooth/ remaining piece even though this was a loose piece. I have really no idea what to do and who to believe and would really appriciate your help. Thank you, Kind Regards,
