I can’t have the 6-month smile treatment because of the gum muscle between my two front teeth, what other treatment can I have?

Wednesday, June 16th, 2010
Q.
I have a relatively big gap between my two front teeth. I went to see about getting the 6 month smile treatment but was told that it wasn’t suitable as my teeth would not stay together because of the gum muscle in between my two front teeth. I was just wondering is there any other way apart from long term braces? Or even after the 6 month smile could i not wear a retainer to keep the gap closed etc ?,

Wednesday, June 16th, 2010
Q.
Four days ago, I got into a fight. I bit the person on the arm where I had a good grip of them. She yanked her arm back where it ended up pulling my three of bottom front teeth out. My teeth still in my gums but they are leaning against my inside lips. She pulled so hard where my inside gum is leaning also with my teeth. I need to know what is to be done. I havent been to the dentist because I have no insurance. Please give me infor.,

Wednesday, June 16th, 2010
Q.
I had an impacted wisdom tooth removed on Friday afternoon. I was able to open my mouth, but once the anesthetic wore off I couldn’t. I have been taking painkillers every four hours but it is still slightly painful. Is this normal? How long will this last?,

Do you know anyone in the North East of England that participates in the ‘donated smiles’?

Monday, June 14th, 2010
Q.
Hello Dr Patel I have just watched you talking on your web site and what you were saying about a smile giving confidence that wasn’t there before is exactly how I feel. I have had extensive dental treatment from a young age as all of my second teeth came though without any enamel on due to Tetracycline as a baby. I now have an upper front bridge of six teeth as at 16 years of age I could not stand the embarresment of my smile any longer and asked my dentist at the time to take my front teeth out and I wore a denture for many years. The rest of my teeth are crowned which has obviously been very expensive over the years. After all this, I am still really unhappy with my smile as the bridge which has been in place for 10 years now does not look even when I smile and I think it looks to small for my mouth, hence I still keep my mouth shut when I smile. I constantly find myself concentrating on celebrity smiles and envy their look so much. I cannot afford extensive treatment which the celebrities have although over the years I have paid thousands of pounds for the work I have had done and wondered if you knew anywhere in the North East of England that participates in the donated smiles as shown on the gallery of smiles on this website. You say on your video you have made many contacts over the years. I would love to be able to come to you as I was so impressed watching your video but obviously that is not practical as I work full time and live in Guisborough, Cleveland. I hope you do not think I am too cheeky asking your advice about this, I just envy those smiles so much! With kind regards.

Would it be cost effective to have dental implant treatment abroad?

Monday, June 14th, 2010
Q.
In some countries they offer dental implants on 1 or 2 visits. I thought you had to have healing time of 4-6 months. I live in Jersey CI and wondering if it is cost effective to have treatment abroad.,

Is the bone graft carried out in a hospital? How much is it going to cost?

Monday, June 14th, 2010
Q.
I have suffered with gum disease since the age of 20 and had extensive periodontal treatment in my younger years. I have been told this is hereditory as my mother lost all her teeth in her late 20′s. I am now 52. I have recently had 2 back teeth one bottom and one immediately above removed due to excessive bone loss. This area shows when I smile. I currently have a bridge totalling 6 teeth fixed by 4 crowns running from both front teeth at the top – back to the area where one of the recent teeth was removed, the gum around the bridge work has receded. In addition my bottom four teeth at the front have extensive gum loss. I was a smoker for many years and have finally been able to break the habit as I am aware this has been a negative factor in the deterioration of my dental health. I am terrified of ending up with loose dentures and feel that further cost for bridges and crowns would be a waste of money due to the instability of surrounding teeth. I understand that bone implant can be carried out so that there would be an option for fixed denture or bridges. Is this procedure carried out in a hospital and how much is this likely to cost? Prior to implant surgery.,
