Can my toddler have his chipped tooth filled in?

Tuesday, March 30th, 2010
Q.
My 18 month old son fell and chipped one of his front teeth last night. There was no bleeding from the tooth or gums that we could see. He did cut his lip a little, but the bleeding stopped in a minute or so. From a cosmetic point, will a pediatric dentist attempt to fill a chipped tooth on a toddler, or is this something we’ll just have to live with until it falls out in a few years? Thanks!,

Should I have a gum graft or a bone graft?

Tuesday, March 30th, 2010
Q.
Dear Patel, I am currently dealing with gum disease, my gum line has dropped/recessed badly and also causing space/hole in between of teeth and bone lost. My periodontist has suggest to have a gum graft for the gum recession. I was wondering if I should instead to have the bone graft or just the gum graft? In addition, does the gum graft will close up the hole in between the teeth? If not, what are my other opinion for that? Many thanks.

How often do titanium posts break?

Tuesday, March 30th, 2010
Q.
About 2 years ago, I had a crown on one of my front tooth. It had a titanium post as a part of the buildup. About a year after, I noticed that the tooth was getting loose. I complained to the doctor and was told that it looked like the root was getting loose. …about a month ago the tooth had broken. Upon an examination, it was determined that the root was fine, but the titanium post was broken. My question is: assuming titanium posts a very durable, how often do they break, if ever. Thank You, Mark,
A.
It is rare but they can break

Is there anything I can do ease the irritation of my gum?

Tuesday, March 30th, 2010
Q.
My third tooth from the middle of the mouth has been lose for a few years and over the past two weeks it has dropped and there is a slight irritation on the gum. It has come to the stage when I have to do something about it. I know there is bone loss but have been referred to you by one of your patients who had bone restructuring. Unfortunately I have a holiday booked on the third week of April and I am worried of the consequences as I can feel the tenderness and the pressure of the tooth. I telephoned your clinic and was informed that you will be away until 2nd week in April. I have only just found your website this evening after my friend suggested that I refer to the site. If you or any of your fellow assistants can give me advice of what should I do until I can have an appointment with you it will be much appreciated.,

Do I have to put up with the gap for the rest of my life or can something be done about it?

Tuesday, March 30th, 2010
Q.
Dear Dr Butt I have a gap in my front teeth which has happened over the last three years due to a problem with my gums. I have asked my dentist if he could fill the gap and on the last visit he said he could fill it with bonding. He wouldn’t advise veneers or porcelain as they would be too heavy and may weaken the tooth as the density of the bone had diminished due to the gum disease. I visited him today and he now advises that I dont have the bonding done as he feels the gum is still inflamed. I am really upset as this gap looks ugly. Please can you advise if there is a way round this or do I have to put up with this gap for the rest of my life? I am 58 years of age. Kind regards.
