I am at a loss about tooth pain following treatment with endodontist

Tuesday, February 16th, 2010
Q.
Hi, My wife had a root canal treatment by an Endodontist (private, who her own NHS dentist refered her to) back in October 2009, and during the treatment she suffered pain from a number of nerve hits. Subsequent to the treatment she had strong ‘burning’ pain around her tooth, and had to revisit the endodontist twice (once being due to the filling having cracked). Still she had the burning pain, but the Endodontist brushed this aside saying the tooth was simply settling down and to get her own dentist to fit the crown. Well the pain has never subsided, and so her dentist cannot/won’t fit the crown. The Endodontist has now washed his hands of the case saying there is nothing more he can do (despite my wife’s continual tooth pain … note this only started after his treatment). Her own dentist didn’t know what to do, so refered her to the Eastman Hospital which we were told would see her in a matter of weeks. Well three weeks on and no appointment, I contacted The Eastman direct to be told they were having problems getting Endodontist’s so couldn’t see her getting an appointment for at least two months! I then found that a registered Endodontist who was linked to the Eastman took referals privately, and locally, so got my wife an appointment with her. Well, apart from being very off-hand, this Endodontist took two xrays, and said she couldn’t see anything wrong with the work already carried out on the tooth, so told her she’d have to go back to her own dentist again!! So, I am at a complete loss as to what to do / where to go!…Her NHS dentist hasn’t a clue what to do, the endodontist who did the treatment has taken a load of money off us and now is simply ignoring our letter, and the bottom line is that my wife has had this constant burning pain around her tooth (the one that had root canal treatment) since last october!!…Please can you help, or at least offer any advice. I thank you in antisipation. Nigel,

Can I have composite veneers replace to improve teeth colour?

Tuesday, February 16th, 2010
Q.
Hello, Im an 18 year female and I suffer from a genetic condition with my teeth which meant my enamel didnt develop properly, as a child this meant I had quite heaily stained teeth which I found really hard to deal with. At the age of 14, I was sent to London by my dentist to a childrens dentist to have composite veneers fitted. In a way this helped and I gained some confidence back in my smile but 4 years later Im still really unhappy. I dont want a hollywood glistening smile but I do want white teeth and that hasnt been achieved with these composite veneers. Is it possible to have these veneers removed and replaced with whiter ones? or would I need to pay to have porcelain veneers done privately? Im just worried that it will cost so much, and Im so worried my composite veneers will fall off. Ive never told people about the genetic condition Ive had, but Im constantly worried people are looking at my teeth. I just want a white smile, so what sort of route will I need to take to achieve this? Thankyou for any help or advice you can give me.,

Can a human survive with 26 teeth?

Tuesday, February 16th, 2010
Q.
Dear doctor, my dentist recomended me to remove two teeth from my upper jaw in order to gain space to push my teeth back with braces. my problem is, i already lack 4 teeth in my mouth ,as they have been removed 11 years back due to crowded teeth.(2 from upper jaw and 2 from lower jaw)…& after that i had lovely straight teeth but recently the upper teeth have come forward. so my doctor says i should remove two of my molars from the upper jaw and push the front teeth back. i have all my 5 molars including the wisdom teeth but already lack the canines in the uper jaw.(coz 11 years back the canines were removed coz they came from above the jaw as i said earlier) so if i remove two molars now, i will be left with 26 teeth in the mouth.so my problems are, is it ok to have 26 teeth? i mean can a human survive with 26 teeth? and is it a good option to remove 2 molars? is it ok to have different number of teeth in two jaws? because if i remove two molars , my upper jaw will only have 12 teeth left and the lower jaw will remain the same with 14 teeth. will it affect the structure of my mouth and face, once i remove the molars? will my cheecks go inside if i remove them? because lot of people say that once teeth have been removed, it courses the cheecks to go in and then the face will look older. so is this true? im now 24 years old. please answer my problems and help me to take a better decision about removing teeth. thank you very much.,

Is Invisalign reason for pain in jaw?

Tuesday, February 16th, 2010
Q.
Hi, I got braces about 5 years ago and had them removed like 2 years ago. Before treatment i had to get 4 teeth removed, the 1st bicuspids. I guess my mouth is too small for my teeth. Since i had my braces removed my top front teeth have been shifting and my bite has changed as well. What I hate the most is the front teeth because they’re moving back to how they were before, like a V shape sicking out. (I used to suck my thumb as a child) So i decided to see another orthodontist since mine couldn’t really help me and just told me to press on my front teeth while watching t.v.! I just started treatment with the new orthodontist and he recommended invisalign for my top teeth and put in one of those glued on retainers on my bottom front teeth so they wont shift anymore. ( they’re pretty straight) I’ve only been wearing the invisalign tray for 3 days now but i notice my jaw is in pain on the right side. Is it because of the invisalign??? I don’t want the discomfort to get worse. Also, i dont know if this is an issue, when i had my impressions done for the invisalign, he also shaved between a couple of teeth in the front so that there would be more room for my teeth to move. So during the few weeks that I had to wait until i started my treatment, I felt my teeth and bite shift slightly since he shaved them and made room. So now when i’m wearing the invisalign its changing my top teeth to fit what it WAS a few weeks ago, And the bite on my bottom teeth are different since they started to shift. Is this an issue??? I hate that i’ve had to go to another orthodontist and pay alot more money for more treatment ( 6 months ). I also apparently have 5 wisdom teeth that have not been removed. This new orthodontist did not say anything about removing them. Would my wisdom teeth be causing my teeth to shift more? should i get them removed ASAP? or will i end up having to get even MORE treatment in the future once they’re out? I’m sorry for the long e-mail, i just need some advice. THANK YOU,

What treatment can I have to improve my smile?

Tuesday, February 16th, 2010
Q.
Hi, please help! I am 25 years old, and all my life I have had very poor teeth. I had an operation when I was 4yrs old and the anaesthetic, combined with the fact that my Dad had an enamel defficiency led me to have brown lines across my front teeth and all of the others slowly rotting away ever since I can remember. I had veneers put onto my front teeth when I was about 16 so they are not a huge issue, but the rest of them are terrible. I have had 3 extractions so far, and have several very heavy fillings and my teeth are crooked and squashed up. I have considered having a full set of dentures just to eleviate my pain and constant embarassment of having ugly teeth, plus limiting the huge amount of cost I would have to pay to have my teeth constantly repaired. All I want is to smile and laugh without having to put my hand over my mouth.,

Why is veneer already stained only a week after getting it?

Tuesday, February 16th, 2010
Q.
I had a composite veneer on a front tooth a few weeks ago which has a slight small brown stain appearing on the bottom already. I have cut out tea, coffee and red wine but have used Corsodyl mouthwash for gum problems which I understand can stain the teeth. I use Sensodine toothpaste for my teeth but believe this is not suitable for my composite bonded tooth. Should I be using two different toothpastes?,
