After my wisdom teeth were removed I had facial pain

Monday, January 4th, 2010
Q.
In May of this year I had all 4 wisdom teeth removed at the age of 37. I knew there would be risks but I wasn’t prepared for what I would go through. Shortly after surgery I noticed that the right side of my face had changed a little, it was a little sunken in more than the other side. I went back to my oral maxillofacial specialist to make sure that my new xrays didn’t show any deviations. After 1 hour of waiting for the new xrays I was told there were no devations. I’ve had MRI’s done, a CT Scan, and currently I am on Short Term Disability for a military curvature in my neck. The MRI’s and CT’s came back normal. I thought that this was all due to the military neck but am not so sure anymore since my facial difference is even more apparent now. It is now December and I am at a loss now. I want to see another Oral Maxillofacial specialist but am scared because of what happened to me with the other. The symptoms I got in the beginning were facial pain only on the right affected side. I got some nausea, and a radiating pain in the back of my ear, on the same side of course. I am scared and don’t know what to do. I also get neck pain, and this is what led me to the chiropractors. Thanks in advance for your answer.,

can you help i had a tumour and need a cosmetic obturator

Monday, January 4th, 2010
Q.
Hi, I’m really hoping you can help with my problem. Back in July 2006 I had surgery to remove a rare benign tumour in my right upper jaw. Sadly they had to remove more than they first thought and it resulted in me losing part of my jaw bone and some of the roof of my mouth. I was fitted with a temporary obturator at the time and since then have had 3 permanent obturators made, non of which I have been able to use so I’m still having to use the temporary one I was first given. I was 19 at the time and I’m now 21 and it has affected my confidence greatly. Its very noticeable and I can’t smile on photos anymore which really upsets me. It’s got me down a lot and although the obturator fuctionally works (I can’t talk, eat or drink without it), cosmeticaly it just doesnt work at all. As I said I’m only 21 and have the rest of my life ahead and I want to feel normal again and have my confidence back. I graduated from my course earlier this week and I couldnt even smile on my graduation photos which I was really upset about. Also as a result of the surgery, it has moved one of my proper teeth at the front which looks horrible now. Previous to this I never had any problems with my teeth and had no fillings or anything. As I’ve been trying with the NHS now for 2 years to get a final obuturator and one that looks good which hasnt happened, I’m now looking elsewhere (I live in Newcastle). Would it be possible for your practise to make an obturator or help me in any way to get my confidence back and get on with my life again. Many Thanks,

Please could you tell me which practices in London and the south of England are the most reputable (i.e. you would recommend) for the ’6-month smiles’ braces? Thank you.

I had fixed braces from age 13-16 and have since worn

Sunday, January 3rd, 2010
Q.
Hello there, I had fixed braces from age 13-16 and have since worn a retainer one night per week. I am now 20 and upon noticing 2 of my front teeth were becoming slightly crooked in a short period of time i visited my dentist to ask what it could be. After taking a xray she showed me that my wisdom teeth are coming through and are applying pressure to my other teeth causing them to move. She suggested i increase the wear of my retainer to every night, however i believe my teeth are still moving.Would it be possible to undergo removal although the wisdom teeth are causing me no other problems as i am financially unable to have orthadontist treatment for a second time as i am a student. I am aware of all possible side affects etc. I’d be very grateful for any advice.
