Huge front gap needs to be filled with payment options.

Q. Hi. im very unhappy about my teeth and as child i had braces for 6 years on and off and my teeth have never looked any different. My main problem is that i have alot of gaps at front and both of my side teeth were removed when i was 12 and have only grown half a tooth back each side. it doesnt look pretty and i feel i can not smile at all. i am desperate for surgery as im getting married 2011. could i get it on the NHS or any other way to make the payment any easier?

A. The NHS is unlikely to be an option unless there are health issues.  Privately  there are payment plans in my practice that can spread the payments over a number of years.  If this is of interest please contact my practice to discuss this matter further

A. Out of the one you have mentioned, Nobel is the only one I have heard of. Nobel is a wll known and researched implant.

Please suggest on getting rid of stains on my front teeth.

Q. Hi, all of a sudden some brownish-grey stripes have appeared on my upper front teeth. I don’t understand why this may have happened as I have not changed my diet, I don’t smoke and if anything, I am taking better care of my teeth at the moment. I am currently away at sea and cannot visit a dentist. Is there anything I can do to get rid of these stains? Many Thanks.

A. The only answer will be to see a hygienist as soon as possible if it is stain that you cannot remove

Having my front teeth capped has caused multiple mouth related issues.

Q. THIS PAST JANUARY I HAD MY BOTTOM FRONT TEETH CAPPED FOR COSMETIC REASONS,SINCE THEN I HAVE HAD A SORE MOUTH,DRY MOUTH AND A BURNING SENSATION, WHAT COULD BE WRONG? AND WHAT CAN I DO?

A. A sore dry mouth with burning is unlikely to be due to a dental procedure.  Pleases consult your doctor – medication may be a cause of this problem

Is it possible to file down my front teeth by qualified dentist?

Q. Is it possible to get my teeth filed down by a qualified dentist? The front two of my teeth are slightly longer than the others. I have asked dental surgeons at several practices and they have told me that they do not carry out such procedures. Can you advise on if and where I can get this done?

A. It depends on how much tooth needs to be removed.  If a small amount of enamel will be removed this is possible  - it is called enameloplasty.  However your case needs to be carefully assessed to ensure the health of your tooth is not permanently affected

Will long gap before next consultation affect root canal treatment?

Q. Hi i need root canal work on a tooth but i need to register with my local after moving. i have been given antibiotics by the emergency clinic after pain and it could now be up to two weeks for the check up,registration and having the job done but will the tooth be ok by that time, thank you?

A. Not ideal due to the potential pain reoccurring – the 2 weeks is unlikely to affect the success of the treatment

Will NHS pay for full mouth dental implants?

Q. Hi, I am a 41 yr old single mum benenfits as unable to work due to severe depression, i lost all the teeth in mouth by the age of 26 yrs, except for the upper back 2, i have never felt confident with having denturs especially as i find it very embarrassing, hurts my gums, cant eat/chew due to the pain, social/sexual life. and low asteem, no self confidence even as regards to smiling, singing, speaking, i have worn the same upper denture only since august 1994, my jaw has dropped and this makes me feel and appear older, will the nhs pay for full mouth dental implants for me thanx

Does tooth get damanged while taking out the crown?

Q. Hi,My dentist recommended to do crown for my front teeth but unfortunate;y the teeth doesn’t match the colour of my teeth and the shape of the teeth is round and my one is straight ,my dentist will take the teeth out but i am worried that by taking the crown out my real teeth under the crown will get damaged or broken what is your advise what to do regards

A. Some damage can occur if the old crown is removed.  However if this is done carefully the damage will be minimal and is unlikely to affect the life of your tooth

Best option to repair or restore bad gum?

Q. My gums are very poor at the bottom of my mouth and have been pushed down by plaque etc ?? due to bad gum disease, I am in the process of rectifying this and also looking into implants for the teeth that it has effected. Is there anyway that the gums can then be repaired or restored so that theres not big gaps etc ??

A. Unfortunately horizontal bone loss can not be re-grown to allow you to have the black triangles filled in.  A restorative solution will be your best option

Q. Re implants Can you tell me what materials are generally used for the “teeth” is it always plastic or can porceline be used and if the(original) upper teeth are poor quality would a softer material be used.

I have broken my veneer what can be done?

Q. Hi I have had a venner fitted to a front tooth for over 8 years (the host tooth was trimmed down, a lot more than I imagined it would, or wanted)and recently on a flight, a hard piece of chocolate won the argument with the venner and part of it broke (about a third)off. What can now be done?? Thanks

A. Initially it can be repaired but you will need to have the veneer replaced

Hey guys, is it possible to get a full set of veneers for free? my husband has the worst enamel that i have ever seen and his teeth seem to be breaking and getting cavities overnight! even the day his wisdom teeth came in, they were already decaying. there is no way we could ever afford a set of veneers, so i was wondering if you guys have any advice on getting free ones. Dentures feels depressive is implants done on NHS?

Q. Hi I recently visited the dentist after years of not going and was told that I would have to have most of my back teeth extracted, im only 32 and the though of having denchers depresses me some what. I recenly heard that implants are available on the nhs if you have 6 or more missing teeth, are you aware of this and would you recomend another route available on the nhs. yours sincerely

A. I am not aware of this although I have not been involved with the NHS for many years.  Please ask your dentist about this

Can the canine be reshaped to look as lateral incisor?

Q. I am missing my upper right lateral incisor. After my orthodontic treatment with braces, the right canine will be next to my right central incisor. How can I make this look esthetically better? The canine can be bleached so it doesn’t look yellowish but can I also use porcelain veneer to make the right canine and left lateral incisor look similar? how is this done? can the canine be reshaped to look as a lateral incisor?

A. This is a difficult problem as the canines are very wide in comparison to lateral incisors.  reshaping with veneers can help to improve the proportions of these teeth compared to your 2 front teeth.  Sometimes multiple veneers are required to get the best result
