Can my dentist fix the gap between my front and bottom teeth

Monday, August 31st, 2009

Q. I have straight teeth with slight spaces on the bottom and a 3mm gap between my front two teeth. I have a diastema and it broke a while back but it is still there. How could i fix this? Braces are expensive and my teeth are perfectly straight already but is it still a neccesssity?

A. Closing gaps are not a necessity but can greatly improve the look of a smile.  Orthodontics is often the best course of action and is cheaper than having multiple veneers placed

Can my dentist use resin or bonding on my receeding gums?

Monday, August 31st, 2009

Q. Dr. Tennet I have crown on one my upper molars-the problem is! It was put on 1998, with very little tooth to mount it to. Over the last few years, there has been serious gum receding-you can see the gray dentin—a new crown in not an option due to little tooth left. Can my dentist put sne comp. resin or bonding over the area expose to protect it and to make it look better cosmetically. Thank you for you time.(age 41)

A. in some cases you can but an opaque resin is needed to block out the darker colour. Rob

Can you advice on which pressed ceramic veneer system to use

Monday, August 31st, 2009

Q. hi there, i would appreciate your input on which pressed ceramic veneer system to use, empress or emax?

A. They are both good systems.  Both can be bonded to the tooth.  Empress had a flexuraL strength up to 300 MPa whilst Emax has a flexural strength up to 450 MPa.  With Emax having High translucency (HT) and low translucency(LT) blocks with multiple base colours avaliable I have been having great success with this system.  As always a lot depends on how experienced a technician is with each system

Can u advice on how to get the teeth replaced and its cost and time?

Monday, August 31st, 2009

Q. Hi. For some time i have been embarrassed by 6 bottom teeth and 6 top teeth, I would really like to have these 12 teeth taken out and replaced if possible with 12 new white and perfectly straight veneers. My question is how much would this treatment cost? My other question is the estimated time this treatment would take? As I am currently at college and cannot afford to miss to much time out on my education is there any chance that this treatment would be able to be done quite quickly or the overall time limit reduced. Really appreciate the help/advice. Many thanks.

A. Veneers involve trimming the teeth down prior to placing thin porcelain veneers over the teeth to imptove their colour and/or shape. As a general rule veneers cost from £500-900 per tooth. It should take around 1-2weeks for the veners to be made and usually only takes 2-3 visits. Please contact our clinic if you need further advice. 01245 268 494

Can wisdom teeth cause gaps between teeth?

Monday, August 31st, 2009

Q. my questiion is that ,i woke up today and noticed a small tiny gap in the middle of my top front teeth and my jaw droped i hate gaps in the teeth and mostly in the front!! ive asked some friends about it and they said maybe its beacuse i havent had my wisdome teeth takend out im 21 years old and have 4 wisdome teeth .my sister is always telling me not to have them removed cause it will hurt she hasnt removed hers too ! but is it possible thats why i got the gap??

A. If the wisdom teeth get in the way of your bite this may cause your lower jaw to knock your front upper teeth.  This could cause a gap to form.  The more likely cause is that you have gum disease of your upper teeth and I would urge you to seek an examination with your dentist

Can Baking soda be used to cover discolored teeth advice?

Monday, August 31st, 2009

Q. Hi, im only 15 and my two front teeth from the bottom have turned grey. There translucent becuase when i put them against my bottom set of teeth or put anything behind them they show the colour through. I dont smoke and have always brushed my teeth. Also, my teeth are abit coloured, theyre rather yellow and i feel really uncomfortable. I got told to use baking soda, but dont know if i should use it with my toothpaste. Should i or how should i use it and why are my teeth grey from the bottom?

A. I would not recommend using baking soda as this has no advantages. I would recommend just using normal toothpaste, but this will not do anything for the colour of your teeth.

I woudl recommemnd you visit a dentist to carry out an examination and diagnose the problem.

After the filling I have had sensitivtiy.. which I know is normal. But there is one small spot that is sensitive when I push with my nail or scratch with my nail.. what could this be? Would a high spot cause this?

A. Hi

I have swollen gums after the removal of my braces advice?

Monday, August 31st, 2009

Q. I am 27 and had brace on both my top and lower teeth for a year. Got it removed 2 months back, but now my gums r really swollen , have receded a lot , and there is gap between teeth and gums. I cant even eat properly due to the gap in gums around the molars. My dentist says that u will have to live with it now.

A. This sounds likely.  However see the hygienist to make sure there is no underlying gum disease as your gums should not be swollen

Advice on removable and fixed dentures used with dental implants?

Monday, August 31st, 2009

Q. Dear Dr Moore, Could you tell me the pros and cons of removeable and fixed dentures when used with implants? Thank you for your help. Best Regards.

A. Hello, Removable dentures held with implants are often a very cost effective way of replacing a lot of missing teeth using only a small number of implnats. For instance in the lower jaw it is often possible to use only 2 implants to anchor a full denture firmly in place. Fixed teeth require more support so need more implants. Removable teth therefore are often cheaper than fixed teeth, however maintenance is often more problematic, fixed teeth are generally easier to maintain and less likely to have complications such as component fracture.

can i fix misaligned teeth with 6 month smile plan?

Monday, August 31st, 2009

Q. Dear Dr Bohara I am 20 years old, nearly 21. My problem is my upper front two teeth overlap each other and has caused one to stick out as it is covering half of the other tooth. As you know at this age not having braces would be prefered. Could i take on the 6 month smile plan? Thank you

A. Hi

6 months smiles treatment is white braces. Other options of straightening the teeth are invisalign which is less noticable.

AFTER COMPLETING THE SCOOLING STEPPED IN TO THE PG COURSE ALSO IT WAS THE SAME SCENARIO. THEN STARTED EXPERIENCING SEVERE PAIN IN TOOTH. IT WAS SO HAPPENED I CONSULTED THE DENTIST HE HAD SUGGESTED ME THE CHOICE OF RCT AND ALONG WITH THE EXTRACTION OF THE FRACTURED TOOTH CANINE. UNDERWENT THE EXTRACTION. RCT WAS CARRIED OUT. NO PROBLEMS FOR THE LAST 5 TO 7 YRS. GADUALLY THE PAIN RE APPEARED AND STARTED WITH ANTIBIOTICS IN BETWEEN THERE WAS A FACTURE OF CROWN 1 YR AGO AND THE BRIDGE WAS RE CONSTRUCTED. What will be the different shades of temps available for my old crowns?

Monday, August 31st, 2009

Q. My dentist has taken wax up of existing teeth. He says my next appnt. is to remove old crowns and fit temps. Does this mean I have no control over how they look. Shouldn’t I see them first to see if I like them and be able to have a certain amount of control of how the permanents will look. I don’t want to end up paying a fortune when I don’t know what the outcome will be like. And what shade will the temps be. I haven’t had a shading taken. What if I end upwith huge white teeth like jodi marsh . I always thought the temps were what the permanents would looke like. Wouldn’t it be better to jig the temps about to my liking before removing any of my old ones. Your expert answer please.

A. Hi

The whole point of having a wax up done is partly to get your approval of the final restorations. Once the temps are placed then these should be considered a trial of your final restorations. Adjustments can be made to the temps, within reason, if the patient wishes and then this can be copied for the technician to copy.

Can u suggest me on my jaw that has become sensitive to hot food?

Saturday, August 29th, 2009

Q. hi DR moore I have a crown on the upper right jaw that has become sensitive to hot food etc The pain is only mild, and seems to radiate to other teeth on that top side. There is no pain when i bite on the tooth, also there is no swelling around the tooth. what could be the problem. thanks for your time.

A. There is a chance the tooth could be dying. It would be worth getting it checked over as pain with hot is a symptom of a dead or infected tooth.

Can u please advice on crooked teeth cause the adjacent teeth to move and become loose?

Saturday, August 29th, 2009

Q. A couple of years ago i got braces on only my upper two front teeth. And now one tooth is moving a little bit. I think it may be one of my other teeth causing it to move, because my other teeth are still crooked. Also, sometimes when i press down on the tooth it moves. Not like its loose, just like underneath. Like its trying to click into place. This is the only tooth that I’m having a problem with. If you could help me that would be awesome.

A.

Go back to your orthodontist to discuss this as they will get worse, do you have retainers? If not make sure you get some.
