Ive oesteoporsis should i go for breaking my jaw or should i go for having fixed braces

Wednesday, July 22nd, 2009
Q.
I am 16, i have oesteoporsis and my bottom jaw is further forward than the top. my dentist had suggested breaking my jaw but with my oesteoporosis they think it would cause a lot of comlications so instead they are offering me fixed braces for two years and want me to write a letter telling them if i want this or not, i have read about the risk of pain and tooth decay if my teeth arent kept clean but i still would like normal teeth. I dont know how much fixed braces would improve my bite. And im not sure if it is worth the trouble because most people think i should just be happy with my teeth how they are and get used to it but what if im missing an oppertunity to have a good smile like other people.

My top front teeth are slightly squint and one overlaps would Invisalign solve the problem

Wednesday, July 22nd, 2009
Q.
I was wondering about ‘Invisalign’. I have a pretty bad overcrowding problem. My top two front teeth are slightly squint and one overlaps the other. The same can be said for the teeth directly on either side of these two. My wisdom teeth haven’t grown in yet, and I worry that I’ll have problems with that because I can barely feel any roomfor them at all. Anyway, I was wondering if Invisalign could fix this problem with overlapping. I’m nineteen and I don’t want to have to wear a mouth full of metal. I love smiling, but I feel self-concious about how uneven my teeth are. Do you have any advice?

Ive grey post underneath the crown which makes it look bad. How can i match the colour

Wednesday, July 22nd, 2009
Q.
I had two porcelain crowns put onto my front teeth at the end of last year to improve their cosmetic appearance. One of them was over a root canal which was about 10 years old. Recently (about 6 months later) the root canalled tooth underneath the crown broke, so that the entire fusion of tooth and crown snapped off near to the gum (aargh!!!) I went back to my dentist, who replaced it with another porcelain crown and a gold post. But when the post was fitted it didn’t look very gold – more dark grey – and it shines through the porcelain so that it looks a darker colour than the tooth next door. For both the first crowns and the subsequent replacement crown I went to the dental lab for shade matching. The new crown is (I think) a really good colour match, it’s just the nasty grey post underneath making it look awful! My dentist says that since the tooth is already root canalled, if the post ever fails I’ll need an implant and that this is the only way it will ever match my other tooth. Are there any other options to achieve a good colour match without having an implant? Should a gold post be a dark grey colour? And if so, why on earth do they not manufacture pale-coloured posts?! (…maybe a non-toxic pale-coloured metal doesn’t exist) Also, isn’t an implant just a permanent post attached to the jaw bone, and therefore won’t it be dark grey-coloured too? Many thanks for your advice.

I am on immune suppressant drugs for arthrits will this affect the root canal treatments success

Wednesday, July 22nd, 2009
Q.
Hi – I have recently, somehow, cracked the third tooth from the back, lower jaw and on my right hand side. My dentist has removed the filling that was already there and put in a dressing which has eased the pain. I have now to decide whether to opt for route canal treatment and a crown or complete extraction. He advises the former. However I am wondering if it’s possible to simply have the route treament and then re-fill the tooth (to cut down on expense)? Another complicating factor is that I am on immuno suppressant drugs for arthrits – methotrexate and infliximab infusions (anti TNF treatment) and I wonder if this might affect the chances of a successful outcome. Basically I don’t want to go ahead and pay a lot of money if the route canal treament might not succeed anyway. Also, the corresponding tooth on the other side is nearly all filling so I suspect this won’t last too much longer either. Would I be best off opting for a crown for the one on the right hand side as they are both quite large teeth and presumably life would be difficult without both of them!! Would appreciate some objective advice from you. Many thanks

I had crown for 20 years and they need replacing now can this be done of NHS advice

Wednesday, July 22nd, 2009
Q.
Hi there, 30 years ago I had a road accident which resulted in my having to have my four front teeth crowned as they were knocked back in the accident. I had some on for a while and then another set 10 years later which I have now had on for about 20 years. These now need replacing. So I would like to know if this can be done on the NHS and what are the best type to go for. What sort of questions do I need to be asking my dentist in order that the replacements meet my full expectations. Also would you be willing to so them for me and if so how much would it cost. This is a really big thing for me and I need to know I have the right man for the job. I look forward to hearing from you in due course. Regards

My two molar teeth both have been spilt down can NHS fund me to have implant in molars?

Wednesday, July 22nd, 2009
Q.
Hello,i have always had very weak teeth and they tend to crumble, my hygiene is very good! My two back molars have both split down the middle , i developed a huge abcess here and have been put on 2 antibiotics, the dentist has referred me to the hospital to have both teeth extracted as soon as the infection is cleard, my question is would the NHS (i have a tax credit exemption) pay for me to have two implantsput in there?, when i smile you will be able to see a gap on the side? Also how long do i have to wait after the extraction for the new implants? Thank you
