Q. Hi Dr Solanki, I had two dental implants put in a couple of years ago, but as yet have not had the crowns fitted, as I moved to the UK, away from the dentist who was doing the work for me. I really want to get the work completed and also have a few other things that need to be done. What are the next steps for me? And does it matter that I will be going to a completely different dentist? Thanks, in advance, for your advice.
A. Any restorative dentist with implant knowledge/background would be able to restore the implants for you. I would advise, however that you find out the information from your previous dentist regarding the implants. This should include: the implant system used, size of implant and any other necessary information such as bone graft sites etc. Take this info with you to a cosmetic dentist/implantologist and see what they can do. I would be more than happy to see you at my kissdental practice if you wish.

Q. my question is that i have always had dark gums but however they have got more dark.i have since then quit smoking .what i need is treatment for my black gums to become pink as im getting married soon. can you please help me .
A. hi
sometimes the gums can naturally change colour due to pigmentation which is difficult to do anything about.
howver they can be more inflamed and increasingly dark if there is gum disease or inflammation. the fact that you have quit smoking is letting the damage caused by smoking become apparent as your bodies natural immune defence which is suppressed by smoking kicks back in and makes you aware of the damage of smoking.
i would advise a check up and if there is a large amount of bacterial buld up or gum disease a hygienist session or appropriae treatment

Q. Hi Dr Moore, My son is almost 10 year old and today his dentist told me that he may need to pull out two of his baby teeth because the adult teeth are underneath and one of the roots of the baby teeth are still showing strong without sign of being absorbed. I am wondering if the pulling is necessary (a must) because I would prefer waiting for them naturally fall off rather than the manual intervene. Can you give me some advices on which way is the best for my son? thanks
A. If the baby teeth are in a poor position and preventing eruption of the permanent teeth then removal will help. I would follow your dentists advice or ask for a 2nd opinion from another dentist if you’re not sure

Q. I am seeing my dentist on Tuesday about getting braces and also because my gums are bleeding when I floss (I have only just started flossing due to crowded lower teeth). I also have some gum recession on my bottom lower tooth which is protuding outwards quite a lot. I receive treatment under the nhs and am wondering if there is anything that can be done about the gum receeding under nhs? Also will I be refused barces as my gums are bleeding or because of gum recession?
A. Ideally, you will need to stabilise your gums first.
Bleeding gums is the first signs of gingivitis. Your gums blled because they are inflamed/reacting to plaque on your teeth. Try NOT to avoid the areas that bleed when brushing. Instaed, use it as an indicator as to where you need to concentrate better with your brushing. I would advise a hygienist visit for a good scale and polish- where you will be shown good brushing and flossing techniques.
Braces is a good option to correct this protruding tooth. I’m sure your dentist will advise you further- or refer you to an orthondontist to discuss your options. good luck.

Q. Hi, due to years of thumbsucking my left central overlaps my right and there is a lot of crowding on my top teeth. I also have a rotated canine tooth which sticks out. I realise I have a very narrow arch. I have enquired about the Inman aligner at several clinics, some say I am not suitable and others say they can make a huge improvement but not to expect a Hollywood smile. How much of an improvement can the Inman’s make? I am only particularly concerned with my top six teeth that show when I smile, I am not interested in correcting any other problems. Would the appearance of my front six teeth be much different looking if I chose to get my teeth straightened with a fixed metal brace?
A. From your descriotion I don’t think the Inman would work that well. The Inman aligner cannot help rotated or very crossed over teeth. You might be better off with a fixed brace, perhaps with white brackets or a course of Invisalign braces??

Q. HI i was wondering if you could give me some advise as to sorting my teeth out. the top four front teeth have really started to get me down recently. my top front INCISORS are crooked and one is pertruding over the other which is very noticable from the side, and my two CANINES, at either side, are both very discoloured. i have had fillings in both of them years ago, and now they look like the filling is sort of roting away, they are brown and grey in colour. i am a 24 yr old single mum of one and currently at college full time,so receiving benifits and i have looked into prices to get it done privatly but obviusly with the money i get disappointly i cannot afford it, so i was wondering if you knew of any help i maybe able to get towards sorting my teeth out? thanks you
A. I can understand your disappointment as you want to sort out your smile but cannot afford it. The NHS will only traet teteh that is needed- this means that anything cosmetic is deemed unecessary and that’s where cosmetic dentistry comes in.
There are many practices that offe different payment schemes. Affordable monthly payments can be made and your smile can be restored. Also, you really need to know WHAT options are available to you and the treatment you need in order to achieve dental fitness. I would be more than happy to offer you a free consultation at my kissdental practice. Hope this has helped.

Q. Dear Dr Moore, I am 48 years old and I have very irregular crooked teeth especially 2 anterior ones. What will be the best treatment? implants or braces? and how much could they cost me?
A. If the teeth are sound then a brace would be best to align the teeth, perhaps a removavble brace such as Invisalign or an Inman Aligner would work well. IF the teeth have a poor prognosis then removal and replacement with dental implants might be best.

Q. Two years ago my dentist told me there was a hole beginning to form in one of my lower teeth (approx 4th from the back. I asked him what could be done, and he said “Nothing – we wait until it gives trouble and take it out.” This was my first visit to this dentist (my previous dentist having died)and I was uneasy about the answer. On my last vist, I asked whether it could be filled, but he said no, and gave a technical explanantion which made no sense to me, as a layman. Can I seek a second opinion with a dentist in another practice? Many thanks
A. Yes it would be a good to get a 2nd opinion as there maybe a perfectly valid reason for this. Perhaps the tooth has a problem with the root that can’t be rectified??

Q. i have just been told by my dentist that i have to have a top denture. I have always had buck teeth and wondered if this is a chance to have straighter teeth fitted in the denture, is this possible thanking you
A. The thing about having dentures- is that you can more or less choose how your teeth are set up. You need to be aware that if you’ve always had teeth that stick out a little- theh your lip support might be compromised. The bigger the change in your teeth, the more focus on your mouth you will get. Alot of my patients who have dentures, always wants ‘natural looking’ teeth so that they don’t appear too false looking. just something for you to consider, but your dentist will advise you on what’s best.

Q. Hi there, I am not happy with the colour of my teeth. They have a bit of a yellow tinge to them and I think they would look much nicer if they were white. How much will it cost to have the laser treatment on them? Thanks
A. The cost of laser/power in surgery tooth whitening varies form £300-500 depending on the system used, generally you will need some home tooth whitening trays to finish things off at the end.

Q. sir is there any laser surjery for the treatment of the vitiligo my age is 20 kindly give information about that one
A.
Vitiligio is a skin condition thatcauses pale, white patches to deveop on the skin due to a lck of melanin. Melanin is the dye-like substance that gives skin it’s colour and protects from the sun’s UV rays. If you have this condition, then it is very important to use SPF of 30+
As far as I’m aware, there is no known cure- but treatment is available to improve the skin’s appearance.
Your GP will initially assess you condition and prescribe steriod creams. This usually prevents the patches from spreading and improves skin tone.
After the course has finished and still no improvement, then it may be worth asking to be referred to a dermatologist who can offer further options. Hope this has helped.

Q. Hi i just turned 20 and being afraid of the dentist since he removed 15 of my baby teeth (my dad fed me sugar sandwhiches) my teeth are no again getting in a bad state it is like the top of the tooth has worn away and only on my top 4 front teeth. I was wondering if there was a way in which i can get back to being able to smile without worrying how bad it looks?
A. The best way for me to assess your smile would be for you to come to my practice for a free consultation. That way you can talk about your concerns and I can discuss your options with you in detail. The consulation is free and there is no obligation for you to go ahead with treatment. I just feel that you need to know what options are available to you. My clinic is kissdental.
It sounds as though you may be suitable for veneers to improve your overall smile.

Q. Hello Dr. Moore: Thank you for answering my question, and with such quickness. I have a follow up question to ask you. The tooth I was telling you about in my first question has broken as a result of an unattended cavity which I had not realized had rotted part of my crown. As a result I was eating something which broke the tooth in half (the crown). So I now have a hole in my gum where the tooth use to be. Would you still recommend using mouthwash and brushing? Also, from your knowledge and sound of my case is my tooth able to be salvaged and should I worry about any toxicity leaking into my system at all? Is this something that requires immediate attention, it just happened yesterday and I probably won’t be able to make it to the dentist until saturday sometime should I try to go in sooner? Sorry for all the questions and I appreciate your response once again!!! Thank you
A. I’m sure it will wait until Saturday, just keep the area as clean as possible Regards Andrew

Q. hiya, im a 15 year old girl looking to become a cosmetic dentist i need to know the qualification required though so i know where to go and what to do if you could maybe just give me some facts on what you did to become a cosmetic dentist and some advice that would be much appreciated thanks.
A. The better you do at school, the more options you have whn going to college. I would advise you that you need to study science at A level- including biology, chemistry and physics and maths. It is also necessary to have agood grade in English.
If you strive to succeed and you really want to do it, then you will get there. Good luck.

Q. I was give tetracycline in 1982,I have since found out that doctors knew from the 70’s that this would affect my teeth but never told my parents and went ahead with the treatment when I was 6 months old. Due to this my baby teeth came through black and then my adult teeth came through black at the back. I then had to have 9 teeth out at the age of 8. My teeth were not straight so I had a fixed brace for 3 years but due to the drug my teeth were very weak and the braces didn’t work on all my teeth. Not only have my teeth been left crooked but also very stained from the tetracyclin as you can imagine this has affected my confidence badly. Because whitening will never work on my teeth I only have a couple of options to sort this out but this would not be something i will ever be able to afford is this something I can get sorted on the NHS? and how would I go about it? Thank you
A. I am unsure of wether you can get any treatment on the NHS for this problem. tetracycline staining is very common. Some whitening products may lift the shade of your teeth- but is not guaranteed to work. Veneers may mask out the underlying tooth colour if a lava material is used. This is just something for you to consider

Q. why do i have a rotten smell coming from my dental bridge and how do i disfuss it until i can make it to my dentist. People seems to cover there face when i talk and the whole room stinks when i open my mouth ..Please help me i am in desperate need also my bridge is loose on one side not the other..Have u ever heard of that..
A. There could be some decay under the bridge you could also be getting food and plaque trapped between your teeth which is causeing the smell. You need to see your dentist and dental hygienist so you can keep your teeth cleaner.

Q. As a recovered bulimia sufferer, the enamel on my teeth is badly eroded. I am a new mother too and wondered if it is possible to get porcelain veneers on the NHS.
A. It sounds as though you MAY be a good candidate for veneers on the NHS. It all depends on the extent of the damage. Veneers will only be done if it is totally necessary. The only thing I can advise, is that you go and see what can be done. If youhav elost a lot of enamel, I’m sure you’ll be expoeriencing some sensitivity and will probably need some form of treatment doing. Hope this has helped.
