How much does it cost to have a small gap fill in front of month

Wednesday, December 17th, 2008

Q. How much does it cost to have a small gap fill in the front of my mouth? I do not have any access skin or anything of that sort. I also wanted to know the cost of teeth whitening without insurance coverage as well. I am a smoker and drink coffee and it si beginning to stain my teeth

A. It is impossible to give give you an idea of costings without seeing you. I would advise you to go and have a consulttion with a cosmetic dentist and see what options you have. Treatments vary from quick and minor one to more extreme depending on what you need and want to have done.  Whitening is a great way to improve the colour of your teeth but i would advise you whiten your teeth first before having cosmetic work as your new restorations will not change colour.

can teeth be whitened successfully after a root canal

Wednesday, December 17th, 2008

Q. Is it possible to have teeth whitened successfully that have had a root canal? I have a front tooth and my left canine that have become discolored because of the root canals and it is really starting to inhibit my smiling. Thank you.

A. hi,
it will definately improve with whitening and it depends on how discoloured it is now and when the root canal was done , in my experiance there always tends to be a slight difference and veneers may be needed but always try the whitening first

veneers ive had for 14 years have become very discoloured

Wednesday, December 17th, 2008

Q. I have had my veneers now for 14 years and they have now become very discoloured. Yellow. I have my teeth professionally cleaned every 3 months and have very good oral care. I am feeling very self concious about this. Do my veneers need replacing?

A. Yes they probably do. They will have lost their glaze and and this is the reason for the discolouration. The technology for fabrication of veneers has greatly improved and so your new veneers would hold their glaze for much longer

i fractured a tooth my front tooth

Wednesday, December 17th, 2008

Q. hey i fractured a tooth my front tooth straight across the top a little more then half way up and i dont see or feel a crack on the other side and its still in. i was wondering what i could do to save it. i dont want to have to walk around with out a front tooth. please help me out im in the military and the hospital we have hasnt been to helpful.

A. WIthout examining you it is difficult to give you a solution.  However many times in similar cases the tooth needs a nerve treatment followed by some type of white filling, veneer or crown.

would the inman aligner be appropriate for teeth that have veneers on them

Tuesday, December 16th, 2008

Q. Hello, I was wondering would it be at all possible that the inman aligner would be appropriate for teeth that have veneers on them already? I have veneers in the front however they tilt slightly forward and I would like them to protrude less. I realise each case is individual but in theory would this work, or would the veneers be damaged in doing so? Thank you

A. Hi The veneers shouldn’t be damaged in the process as the teeth will move whether you have veneers or not. If an inman aligner is suitable it should work well

I’ve found out I have a class II div 2 mal occlusion

Tuesday, December 16th, 2008

Q. Hi there. Having done a little research into this, I’ve found out I have a class II div 2 (mal)occlusion. I’m keen to straighten my teeth but also to try and move my lower jaw forward a little, as it has a “weak” appearance in profile and gives me a double chin when I’m not even fat! I’m not sure how related this is to my teeth positioning, but it would be nice to try and tackle it. I’m wondering which methods are generally suitable for this tooth layout, and whether some might be more suitable for bringing my lower jaw forward, if that is indeed possible? Many thanks for your time.

A. Orthodontics can only improve the position of your teeth.  If as you suggest the overall problem is the position of your jaws you may need other orthodontic appliances to try to move your lower jaw .  This works best as we grow between 7-14 years old.  If this is not possible the only option may be surgery to move the jaws.

I have a 6mm gap in my 2 top teeth

Tuesday, December 16th, 2008

Q. I have a 5 – 6mm gap in my 2 top teeth and just wondered what would be the best way to fill the gap, and what would it cost. Thank you

A. A gap of this size is best treated with orthodontics to move the teeth into a better position.  If you are crowded elswhere in your upper arch orthodontics my be all that is required.  However many times a comnbination of orthodntics and veneers will produce the best result.

About a week ago I had a molar in my top jaw removed

Tuesday, December 16th, 2008

Q. Dear Dr Suri About a week ago I had a molar in my top jaw removed – since then the tooth infront of it (the incisor i think) has been giving me some discomfort when i eat. I fear it may have been loosened / damaged during the extraction. What should I do from here? Also I would like to consider having a dental implant in the extracted site and would like more info on costs, procedure etc. Many thanks,

A. thank you for your question.
Sometimes the tooth next to the one being extracted is traumatised slightly however, this pain should subside with time. In terms of having an implant, usually the tooth should be taken out in a particular way so that there is as little trauma as possible to the bone. Usually then the socket is packed with synthetic bone crystals and left to heal for 4 months before the implant is placed. Your extraction doesn’t appear to have been done this way. This means that you will have some bone resorption so you could not have an implant right now. The best thing to do is to wait for 6 months. At this point the bone will have undergone the majority of the remodelling. You can have the bone levels assessed at this point to see if you are eligible for implant treatment. The bone in the top jaw does receed more than in the lower so the deciding factor will be how close the sinus floor is to the bone. If it is too close and there is not enough bone present for an implant then there is always the option of havong a sinus lift and bone graft

I passed out flat on my face and damage my crown

Tuesday, December 16th, 2008

Q. I passed out flat on my face and damage my crown. My dentist said the crown is cracked/broken and i would need it removed and replace with a denture. I really dont want this to happen. is there anything else that can be done. many thanks

A. if the crown is fractured and the root is intact it may be possible to do a post crown however if the tooth needs to be extracted a bridge or implant may be suitable.
these would be private treatments

does composite bonding ruin your enamel forever

Monday, December 15th, 2008

Q. I want to thank you for answering my question so quickly..however when you said tooth bonding is reversible..did you mean that I could go back to my natural teeth? I heard that the acid solution they paint on your teeth before they apply the composite bonding ruins your enamel forever…and you could never go back. Is this true? Please tell me it’s not true!

A. hi
the acid solution is milder thaqn lemon juice,
your source is mistaken , just scaremongering tactics im afraid

Basically my teeth are fine but the upper front 2 are sticking out

Monday, December 15th, 2008

Q. Hi Basically my teeth are fine but the upper front 2 are sticking out a little, I’ve been to see my orthodontist and he suggested I need one extraction and a brace putting on, I want to know how much this would cost on average because I got a quote of £1500 which is steep for me :( Would removable braces be cheaper?? Kind Regards.

A. The price for a fixed brace sounds about right, removable braces such as the inman aligner are usually cheaper but might not work so well if you’re having a tooth out

i am interested in whitening my teeth

Monday, December 15th, 2008

Q. hello, i am interested in whitening my teeth however have been advised that this is not appropriate for smokers?, i.e. once whitened the effects of smoking will create further blotches?, is this correct?

A. Not strictly speaking, however the bleach does make the enamel slightly more porous therefore if you do undergo whitening then it is best to refrain from smoking, drinking red wine etc

my daughter was screaming in pain due to teeth coming through

Monday, December 15th, 2008

Q. hi doctor Riten, my doaugter is 7 month ,2 days ago she was screaming i thought she has apain in her stomach i gave her pain leaver it calms her down for 2 h then she cry again till now she is crying all the time and uncomfy she wants me to carry her all of the day ,i checjd her teeth i fount the bottom teeth are starting to grow,,,i don’t know what to do am i have to give her pain leaver??

A. It sounds like a teething pain which can cause a lot of discomfort as her teeth are cutting through her gums the pain generally goes away once the teeth have come through.  Local chemists sell some gels which relieve the pain or calpol ( liquid paracetamol) seems to work.

i have recently had a fall and my front tooth has broken off

Friday, December 12th, 2008

Q. i have recently had a fall and smashed my face againt a wall, part of my front tooth has broken off which has now left the remainder of my tooth with a sharp point and looks awful. If i go to the detist will they be able to treat me right away, and what is the procedure to repair a chipped tooth. Is there any pain involved as i have a great fear of going to the dentists and avoid needles at all costs. And any idea of what the price would be.

A. the first thing is to have a proper asessment with a dentist – this would also need an Xray to check on what is happening below the tooth.  Following this your options for treatment are a simple filling, a veneer, a crown or ………..if the tooth is not savable a denture, a bridge or an implant.  The costs you will need to discuss with your dentist

my third tooth is twisted

Friday, December 12th, 2008

Q. Hi I was hoping you could give me an idea of what the best way of sorting out my smile would be and maybe a rough idea of how much it would cost. When i was younger my third tooth i think its called the canine grew twisted and closer to the front than it should have because of this my second tooth never grew so now i have one tooth in the middle of where two teeth should be with gaps on both sides. i don’t mind if my rogue tooth needed to be removed for the best results. But i would like to be able to smile properly as quickly and cheaply as possible as it is really beginning to get me down. Thank you in advance for your help & advice I look forward to hearing from you.

A.

Check out some dentists in your area that offer a free initial consultation, You should be able to get some rough prices for veneers, bridges, cosmetic bonding, or orthodontics (braces ) then balance the cost with the speed and the “smile” result.
Cheap & fast but ? result in your case would be cosmetic bonding.

i wana apply in BDS but i am very very poor pls advise

Friday, December 12th, 2008

Q. HELLO SIR IM FROM PAKISTAN AND DOING MY fsc i wana apply in BDS but i am very very poor pls advise me that which univeristy is good for me.thanks

A. hi
no matter which option you take in the uk you will find it expensive,
my advice would be to apply to other european union countries where the fees will be cheaper and accomplish a degree there and this will be recognised in the uk.
your other option is to come to the uk with a dental degree from pakistan and then do the conversion exams

i had ceramic put on recently

Friday, December 12th, 2008

Q. Im 17, i had ceramic put on recently. My orthodontic said I would only need to use them for 6 months. I only have a couple spacing problems. Is it possible that i only need them for 6 months when I keep hearing that the average time is 2 years or so.

A. Orthodontic treatment times varies depending on the extent of tooth movements needed, generally closing spaces is easier and quicker than treating crowded teeth or teeth that have rotated round.  Orthodontic treatment times do vary from 4 month to 5 years.  Do not forget that after the teeth have been moved you will need to wear a retainer.

I have radiating pain in my upper teeth

Thursday, December 11th, 2008

Q. Hi, I have radiating pain in my upper teeth. I believed it is one of the upper molar. There is nothing wrong with the tooth but I can feel sharp pain radiating. Sometimes, the pain goes away entirely. The gums are bleeding when I floss. Do I need a root canal? I’m scared since I’ve already had two in the past month.

A. You may have gum disease, a cracked tooth, food packing or an inflammed nerve. It is very difficult to let you know without examining you. the best thing to do would be to go back to your dentist to find out for sure
