Q. Dear Dr, I would like to ask if its possible to replace my orignal “fang” teeth for permanent Vampire like fangs. If yes, how much would it cost. Thank you
A. I’m not sure what sort of look you’re after, perhaps you need to travel to a dentist in Transillvania to ask for a 2nd opinion!!!

Q. I would like to have a silver cap that sits permanently over a tooth, is this possible or would I have to remove a tooth and replace it with a silver one?
A. Why would you want a silver tooth?
If this is what you would really like then a veneer can be made to go over your natural tooth. Your tooth may have to be shaved down slightly for this to blend in

Q. hello doctor, tis is to bring to your notice that i have done my bds from bombay having 6 months experience .i am interested in doing implantology course.i have heard that germany is a good place to learn.please guide me sir thanking you
A. Hi
There are various good courses around the world.
I would strongly recommend the misch courses in USA, which gives great education in relation to surgical and prosthetics. Also I hear that UCLA provide very good courses also.
Unfortunately I am unaware of any courses in Germany.

Q. Hey, I’m 21 years old and I definitely dont want any braces. But, I have this one tooth between my incisor and canine which is completely crooked. It looks like I have a gap in my top half set, and then when you look close enough there is a tooth sitting at a 45 degree angle between two other teeth. Do you think if I had my widsom tooth in the top right corner of my mouth removed, my crooked tooth would straighten up? And if so, how long would it take? Thanks
A. It is very difficult to give you an answer without seeing you. It is highly unlikely removal of a wisdom tooth would cause your teeth to straighten naturally. Orthodontics can now be done in a number of ways and is probably the best way to straighten your teeth.

Q. Hello Dr Glaister, I need 3 implants in my upper left quadrant following 2 failed bridges. I’m nervous about the treatment as my problem resulted from poor work of dentists. I’ve been quoted £5200 for 3 Imtec Endure implants in Antigua with a dentist who I believe is trustworthy. An alternative quote is £6500 for 3 Nobel Biocare in London. Can you give me any advice on the difference in systems and best value? Many thanks
A. Nibel Biocare is just a brand who make the Implants. The most important factor when considering Implants is to make sure you feel comfortable with the surgeon that is going to place them for you.
One reservation I have about having surgery abroad is that if something goes wrong it then you will need to travel all the way to Antigua to have him look at this.
Personaly I have not come across Imtec Endure Implants, but i do know that Nibel Biocare have a high sucess rate.
Kind regards

Q. need a bridge on both front teeth have healthy teeth both sides but dentist does not recommend this to me and advises a pallet would you advise the same.
A. Impossible to say without examining you. Your options are a denture, a bridge or implants. If possible I would always try and opt for the implant route as they have the longest success rate.

Q. The gums of my front teeth are receding day-by-day and the size of both of my front teeth are increasing and also my gums bleed very frequently.since i dont have an health insurance i have not consulted any dentist.which treatment do you suggest for me & what kind of insurance should i take???it would be nice of you if you mention the cost of the treatment as well
A. hi,
your gums are receeding due t the onset of gm disease and possibl lifestyle habits such as smoking, the bleeding is a sign of inflammatory response.
you need to have a full examiation with x rays so the damage can be assessed and treated.
the treatment and hence cost varies greatly and i wold advise tesco as a good insurance unless you can get cigna through your work.

Q. my two front teeth are, i feel, long. i have had an idea to file them down. is this possible? another thing is, i would get my teeth whitened, but i feel that it would be to expensive in the clinic, so would you advice me buying a branded one, if so, could you recommend it to me? thank you for your time.
A. Hi You could only file a very small amount of enamel from the teeth before they are damaged and sensitive, I wouldn’t recommend this done at home!!
Shop bought tooth whitening is very hit and miss, whitening tooth pastes tend to remove stain only and can cause abrasion of the enamel resulting in more stain build up in the future. it might be worth investing in good quality professional whitening at a dentist

Q. What can be done for a man of 82 that has lost three crowns leaving just the roots at the top along with all my back teeth top and bottom. Twelve front teeth remain six at the top and six at the bottom. What procedures would you recommend in order to achieve a smile as shown here? Thanking you and best wishes
A.
Hi
There are anumber of options to replace missing teeth and improve the smile, in your situation
1. removable dentures
2. fixed bridges
3. dental implants.
Of course it is impossible to give the ideal option without looking the mouth and carrying a full examination.
If you look at www.dental-suite.co.uk , this would provide you a great deal of information.
If there is any further way I can help, please do not hesitate to contact.
Regards
Kal

Q. Hello Dr Tennet I am considering buying a home kit via the internet to whiten my teeth. I have one veneer – upper front, and I wanted your advice on whether or not the whitening process will in any way interfere/damage or even make it a different colour to my own teeth? Also, is there a particular type/brand of kit you would recommend? I know that some brands are offering a laser plasma light to accelerate the process – What should I be wary of? Finally would you advice me to do this at home? I can’t really afford dental prices…. I have sensitive teeth and gums and already use a toothpaste for this problem. Many thanks for your time
A. If you have sensitivity already I would avoid all whitening. In the meantime I recommend saving up and going to a dentist there are whitening promotions from time to time and this will further save money if you have time to wait for one.
For sensitivity try using ordinary toothpaste to clean you teeth then using a very thin smear ( mo more than 1/4 size of an average pea of sensitive toothpaste left on ( dont rinse ) while you sleep. You stop leaving the paste on after 12 weeks use

Q. My husband one week ago had a 6 tooth bridge(front teeth) put in. There are gaps at the top of the teeth. He had bone disease due to an injury when he was young. Is there any thing that can be done, we are discussing a partial so he would not have the gaps when he smiles. He has a gummy smile and was very upset having 4 teeth pulled and two crowns and his top of his teeth look bad and he talks like he has a mouth gaurd in! Thank you for your help!
A. It can sometimes be very difficult to get used to a big change at the front of the mouth. This does tend to affect the way you speak at first but normally settles in after 2-3 weeks. The best thing is maybe to wait until the tissues heal after the extractions, then see if its possible to explore other options, including implants. However the bone may need rebuilding prior to placing implants, especially if there has been extensive bone loss due to bone disease

Q. im due to have bridge work on my top set of teeth. It will involve two crowns on my natural teeth, the problem that i have is will this be the best option for me? i would like something that will even my smile, as i have had this type of treatment before and it ended in re-bridging again due to teeth extractions, because of a re-occuring abcess.
A. It is hard for me to advise you on what the best option for you is, without assessing your mouth. There are other options avaiable for restoring gaps such as implants and dentures. If you are in dounbt whether a brisge is the best treatment for you, I recommned you go for a second option.
Kind regards

Q. My daughter has been told that she has lost most of the enamel on her teeth it has worn away and they need bonding to prevent them becoming sensitive, I a concerned that she is taking this at face value without rewsearching the long term effects etc. Is this a well known method of dealing with this problem? She says its the fizzy drinks she had as a child Could it be the cider she now drinks as she had fine teeth till she got to 18!
A. It could definitely be the cider that she drinks. Tooth surface loss can be caused by teeth rubbing against eachother, acid damage either from the stomach or from external foods such as fizzy or fruit juice drinks ,or can be caused by a bite problem. Bonding can improve the situation . As a dentist I would be looking for clues as to whether this is an ongoing problem or a historical problem. The key clue is if the wear area are stained and the cause is due to previous acid drinks then these areas may well be stained. Fresh areas mean it si likely that the problem is ongoing.

Q. I have been advised that i should think about having an inman aligner, my question is can you have them on top and bottom teeth at the same time and because of the cost I have been thinking of looking abroad, should I remain in the uk for treatment or consider abroad? Also googled the appliance for abroad and nothing showing?
A. You should be able to have both appliances done together. It is important you find a dentist you trust with experience in orthodontics.

Q. I am going to get my brace off next week and want my teeth whitening. But i have a cap on my front tooth will it take to the whitening.
A. If the cap is made or covered in porcelain it will not whiten. Supervised Tray whitening by a dentist will advise you on how far you can whiten to blend the old crown with the new shade. the alternative is to whiten the teeth to the lightest shade easily achieved and then replace the crown with a new shade that matches
The StJohns Dental Practice offers free prewhitening assesments. Please contact Amy for details

Q. i’ve got braces on and my gums are looking unhealthy. they are inflamed. and i brush as hard as i can but it still stays the same and myorthodontist said she’ll take em off i she doesnt see a difference the next time i go to see her. WHAT DO I DO?
A. It might be worth asking your orthodontist to refer you to the practice Hygienist. Sometimes its better to brush efficiently rather than hard; perhaps you just need a little extra help

Q. hello i ahave a problem with my front tooth and the doctor says that my i hve lost ALOT of bone in my teeth and is very wobbly he says to have a implant will cost me 2000 pounds and im better of having brigdes as its cheaper as well but he also said its upto me now i dnt know which one will be more better for my futur as im only 26 years old can u tell me where i can do dentures for cheap and and can i get them done in another dentist instead or which is better implants or brigdes
A. hello,
taking into account your age, a restoration that gives long term function and aesthetics without compromising lifestyle will be the best course. inevitably this is likely to be the implant as it does not involve driling of any teeth and is not removable like a denture.
it is important to address why you have lost bone as ths may undermine other teeth in the future.

Q. I chipped my two front teet about 8 years ago and I have had them capped but because I grind my teeth a lot the caps are continuously being worn and chipped. I have a night guard but they are still really noticable when I smile. How can I fix this?
A.
You need to go to a dentist that has a knowledge of occlusion. This is the study of how teeth bite together and function in relation to the muscles and the joint. You may not actually be a grinder. If you were there would be wear facets on your posterior teeth as well or your bite guard would have marks characteristic of grinding on the surface.
It could be that the crowns were placed in a position that interfere with your chewing cylces and the chipping and wear is happening for this reason. It is very difficult to diagnose the problem without examing you. If you live within traveling distance of my pravtice I would be happy to see you for a consultation but if not then please follow my advice in finding an appropriate dentist
