hepatitis and your oral health
How can hepatitis affect your oral health?
Hepatitis rarely affects your mouth or your teeth although it can affect the way your body breaks down your medications and the way your blood clots. You should talk to your dentist or to your physician about your condition and allow them to collaborate so that they could provide you with the best treatment possible. Inform your dentist about the medications you are taking and the corresponding dosages.
You could transmit the hepatitis to people at the dental office. This can happen through blood or blood-contaminated saliva. Dental care personnel are usually vaccinated for type A and type B hepatitis but you should still take precautions. There is still no vaccine for the type C hepatitis. If you have hepatitis then you should inform your dentist even if the risk of infecting your dentist is low. Bring a copy of your blood test results when you visit your dentist.
