dermatomyositis and your oral health
How will dermatomyositis affect your dental treatments?
Dermatomyositis is a disease that affects the muscles. They become inflamed. One of the most common signs of this disease is when the head and neck experience weakness of muscles. There will be difficulty in swallowing and chewing. In children, this disease can result in calcified nodules in their facial tissues and their tongue. It can be seen in X-rays.
If you have dermatomyositis then there won’t be a lot of changes in dental treatment but for precautionary measures, you should provide your dentist with a list of the medications you are taking and their respective dosages. You should also inform your dentist if you are allergic to a particular drug or if you have sensitivity to a particular drug too.
