Dental Varnish

Dental varnish is applied to the surface of the teeth and the walls of cavities in order to prepare them for restorative procedures; the varnish helps to protect the teeth from components of the filling material. The varnish is often composed of sodium fluoride. Dental varnish can also be applied to the surface of the tooth in order to cover the dentin; this serves to prevent the sensation of pain travelling to the pulp.
