Dental Maintenance Organization

Also known as managed care, a dental maintenance organization is designed to provide dental care at a fixed price. Patients who have insurance provided by a dental maintenance organization are obliged to receive treatment from designated doctors within a certain network; this is determined by negotiations between groups of dentists and dental maintenance organizations. This form of insurance is advantageous because it works out relatively cheap; the dentists are paid per client and agree to perform treatments at a fixed price. Attending a dentist who is part of this arrangement may also be advantageous as there is often no waiting time.
