Demineralization
Demineralization is another term for the erosion of enamel on the tooth surface and refers to a removal of minerals; this often leads to the formation of cavities in the teeth. Demineralization is commonly caused by the intake of acidic and sugary drinks and foods; oral bacteria also cause this condition.
Preventing Demineralisation
In order to prevent demineralization it is important to brush and floss the teeth regularly, in order to remove plaque. It is also advisable to limit the consumption of sugary and acidic food and drinks and to eat a healthy and well-balanced diet. Regular visits to the dentist can also prevent the formation of cavities. Fluoride-based toothpaste is recommended to strengthen the enamel of the teeth. The body uses minerals from natural and organic foods as well as the carbon dioxide in our breath mixed with water to perform the process of remineralisation; this helps to rebuild the enamel and strengthen the teeth.
