Cement

Cement is used in dentistry as a sealant and a bonding material. Cement is made by mixing powder with liquid. Cement is used as a filling material as well as a bond for attaching inlays and onlays. There are different types of cement; these include phosphate and phenolate based cements as well as resins. Substances should only be used as cement if they fit the following criteria; these include being able to form a strong bond with the enamel and dentin on the teeth, being resistant to saliva and being non-irritants to the gums and the pulp.
