Antiseptic

An antiseptic is a substance which prevents the growth of microorganisms on the surface of the body. Antiseptics can be distinguished from antibiotics by the act of destroying bacteria on the outside of the body rather than the inside. Antiseptics used on non-living surfaces should be referred to as disinfectant substances. Common antiseptics include alcohol, hydrogen peroxide and iodine.
