Agar

Agar is a jelly-like substance, which is composed from seaweed extracts. In medicine, agar jelly is primarily used as a site to contain microorganisms such as bacteria. The bacteria multiply rapidly on the agar jelly; scientists are able to monitor and observe their habits in order to develop treatments or identify infections for example. Agar can also be used as an ingredient for desserts as well as acting as a laxative and a substitute for gelatine.
